Preferred Name Policy
Daytona State College recognizes that many students prefer to use first names other than their legal ones to identify themselves. If the use of this preferred name is not for the purposes of misrepresentation, the College acknowledges that a “preferred name” can and should be used where possible in the course of College business and education.
Therefore, any student may choose to identify a preferred first name in addition to their legal name. The student preferred name will appear on the Student Center, Class Roster, Falcon Online/D2L and in some communications. The College is working to expand the use of preferred names across our many systems. We will update these lists as modifications are made.
Preferred name will not appear in the following areas:
- Transcripts
- Diplomas
- Financial aid records
- 1098-T
- Immigrations documents
- Bank Mobile
- Nelnet
- Clearinghouse
- Paychecks
- Commencement Program
- Federal and State Agency Reporting
- Directory
- Direct Mail
- DSC College Email Address
- Microsoft related products (includes Office suit and Teams)
Students may request the addition of a Preferred Name by completing an online Change of Personal Information form.
Inappropriate use of the preferred name, including but not limited to misrepresentation or attempting to avoid a legal obligation, may be cause for denying the request.
