Program Mission, Description, and Outcomes

Mission:

The mission of the Bachelor of Radiologic and Imaging Science program is to enhance the imaging professional's ability to function in a diverse healthcare environment. Focusing on concentrations such as computed tomography (CT) and leadership, the program will provide extensive education to meet the needs of the medical imaging community through an advanced academic curriculum.

Description:

The Daytona State College B.S. in Radiologic and Imaging Sciences (BSRIS) degree program is designed specifically to meet the needs of practicing imaging professionals who wish to obtain advanced training in the field. Applicants must hold an Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited institution to be admitted to the program. They must also have current eligible professional credentials from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) to complete the program.  

Degree Concentrations: Applicants to the BSRIS program will need to declare a concentration of either: Leadership or Computed Tomography.

  • Leadership - completely online. 
  • Computed Tomography - predominantly online with a clinical practicum course.

Accreditation promotes excellence in education and elevates the quality and safety of patient care in imaging sciences. 

College Accreditation: This program is currently  Daytona State College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associates and baccalaureate degrees. Daytona State College also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Outcomes:

Graduates of the Bachelor of Radiologic and Imaging Science program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a mastery of basic radiographic and advanced medical imaging skills.
  2. Demonstrate effective communication skills that provide compassionate, culturally competent, and age-appropriate patient care.
  3. Demonstrate problem-solving/critical-thinking skills that provide ethical and safe patient care.
  4. Demonstrate the value of professional development for patient care and medical imaging through lifelong learning that meets the needs of the medical imaging community

Additional Admission Requirements

This is a limited access program.

  • Submit a Bachelor of Radiologic and Imaging Science Application for admission in the Admissions Office or online: Apply Now.
  • Possess a conferred Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited institution to be admitted to the program. 

  • Possess an eligible degree from a regionally accredited institution and a current eligible professional credential from ARRT, ARDMS, or NMTCB.

  • Complete all college coursework with a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average with minimum grades of "C "in the prerequisite coursework.
  • Have a minimum of 48 accepted credits including the following General Education prerequisite coursework:
  • Provide an official transcript from all previous institutions attended. International students must have their transcripts evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)  naces.org/members.htm

Additional Completion Requirements 

  • Conclude the program of study within six semesters.

  • Fulfill the 42 credit hours of the Radiologic and Imaging Science B.S. program required courses, 36 credit hours of General Education, and 48 credit hours of associates-level coursework.
  • Conclude two years of the same foreign language in high school or two semesters of the same college level foreign language.
  • Satisfy the College-Level Communication and Computational Skills and the Civic Literacy Competency requirement.
  • Earn a grade "C" or better in all program specific, elective, and prerequisite courses.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the nursing program as outlined in the nursing student policy handbook, as well as the college student handbook.
  • Meet all other Daytona State graduation policies and deadlines.
