General Education Mission Statement

General education at Daytona State College provides students with a broad foundation of knowledge and intellectual skills that support academic success, lifelong learning, and informed participation in an evolving global society. Through the general education curriculum, students develop critical thinking, communication, information literacy, ethical reasoning, and problem-solving skills necessary for personal, professional, and civic engagement.

General education requirements comprise an important part of the credit hours necessary for the Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees. Daytona State College considers the knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed through the general education curriculum essential for educated individuals and meaningful participation in academic, professional, and civic environments.
