How Does a Student Apply for Financial Aid?
Applying for financial assistance has never been easier!
Daytona State College requires students to complete the FAFSA® form and strongly encourages students to apply for the DSC Foundation Scholarships each year.
- Create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account
- Do not share this information with anyone, as it is linked to a student, or parent’s, social security number and date of birth
- Keep it in a safe place, as students and parents will use this throughout their academic career.
- This FSA ID will act as a signature on the FAFSA, master promissory notes, and entrance counseling.
- Complete the FAFSA® application at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa and takes approximately 30 minutes from start to finish. Please be sure to have the following handy and take note of the following:
- The FSA ID created for the student, parent, and/or spouse
- DSC’s school code: 001475
- Students, and parents, or spouses (if applicable) must provide consent to have the tax information pulled in from the IRS. Failure to consent to this step will make a student ineligible for federal, and in some cases, state financial assistance.
- Submit any requested documentation. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) selects students for a process called verification. This is to ensure the information on the FAFSA® application matches the information provided by the IRS. If there is conflicting information, we are required to resolve it before a student is eligible to receive aid. Students should check their MyDaytonaState often and submit any documentation requested as soon as possible.)
