ASL2150 American Sign Language II

American Sign Language II builds on foundational ASL skills and expands students’ ability to communicate with increased fluency and visual accuracy. Emphasis is placed on intermediate vocabulary development, advanced grammatical structures, classifiers, spatial organization, and fingerspelling fluency and recognition. Students strengthen both expressive and receptive skills through interactive dialogue and real-world communication tasks. The course deepens understanding of Deaf culture, including social norms, cultural values, and contemporary issues affecting the Deaf community in the United States. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate improved visual-spatial communication, multi-clause ASL discourse, and cultural competence necessary for meaningful interaction with ASL users. Completion of this course helps satisfy the Daytona State College foreign language requirement.
