Program Overview
Mission:
The Mid-Florida GNJ Electrical Non-Union Apprenticeship prepares motivated individuals for careers in the electrical construction industry through paid on-the-job training and related classroom instruction under the supervision of experienced electrical professionals.
Description:
The Mid-Florida GNJ Electrical Non-Union Apprenticeship is a four-year, state-subsidized registered apprenticeship program that combines paid employment with classroom instruction. Apprentices develop knowledge and skills in electrical theory, wiring methods, installation techniques, electrical motors and controls, safety, first aid, and the National Electrical Code.
The program provides comprehensive training for residential, commercial, and industrial electrical construction. Apprentices complete 8,000 hours of supervised on-the-job training and 792 hours of related classroom instruction while earning progressively increasing wages throughout the apprenticeship. Classroom instruction is held at the Advanced Technology College, 1770 Technology Boulevard, Daytona Beach, Florida.
Registered Apprenticeship: Apprentices earn wages while completing structured on-the-job training and related technical instruction that prepares them for journey-level employment in the electrical construction industry.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. Applicants selected by the Mid-Florida GNJ Electrical Non-Union Apprenticeship and Training Committee begin classroom instruction each fall.
Outcomes:
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to apply OSHA regulations and the National Electrical Code.
- Demonstrate proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and electrical products used in the electrical trade.
- Demonstrate knowledge of electrical theory, installation, troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
- Demonstrate technical skills required for residential, commercial, and industrial electrical construction.
- Develop and implement electrical projects using industry standards and best practices.
Admission Requirements
Apprenticeship Admission:
- Possess a standard high school diploma or GED.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Complete an apprenticeship application through the Mid-Florida GNJ Electrical Non-Union Apprenticeship and Training Committee.
- Be selected as a first-year apprentice by the Mid-Florida GNJ Electrical Non-Union Apprenticeship and Training Committee.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Provide a valid Social Security card.
- Be physically able to perform the duties of the electrical trade.
- Successfully pass the industry's validated aptitude examination.
- Submit a negative drug screening prior to employment.
Daytona State College Admission:
- Submit an application for admission to Daytona State College after selection by the apprenticeship committee.
- Register for apprenticeship classroom instruction and on-the-job training through the appropriate apprenticeship committee.
Financial Aid
This program is ineligible for federal and state financial aid.
Students are encouraged to contact the apprenticeship sponsor regarding employer-sponsored educational benefits and available industry assistance programs.
