Program Overview
Mission:
The Plumbing and Pipefitters Union Apprenticeship prepares apprentices with the knowledge, technical skills, and hands-on experience necessary to become successful journey-level plumbers, pipefitters, and service technicians through comprehensive classroom instruction and paid on-the-job training.
Description:
The Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #295 Apprenticeship is a five-year, state-subsidized registered apprenticeship program that combines paid employment with related technical instruction. Apprentices develop competencies in plumbing, pipefitting, welding, drawing interpretation, rigging, signaling, refrigeration, air conditioning fundamentals, safety, mathematics, and proper use of industry tools and equipment.
The program prepares apprentices for journey-level employment in residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing and pipefitting. Apprentices complete 10,000 hours of supervised on-the-job training while participating in related classroom instruction. Apprentices earn progressively increasing wages while gaining the technical knowledge and practical experience required by the plumbing and pipefitting industry.
Registered Apprenticeship: Apprentices earn wages while completing structured on-the-job training and related technical instruction that prepares them for journey-level employment in the plumbing and pipefitting industry.
Outcomes:
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to apply applicable building codes and state and federal safety regulations.
- Demonstrate proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and products used in the plumbing and pipefitting trades.
- Demonstrate knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting theory, installation, troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
- Demonstrate technical skills required for residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing and pipefitting applications.
- Develop and implement plumbing and pipefitting projects using industry standards and best practices.
Admission Requirements
Apprenticeship Admission:
- Be accepted by the Daytona Beach Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #295 Apprenticeship Committee.
- Complete the apprenticeship application and interview process through the Daytona Beach Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #295 Apprenticeship Committee.
- Possess a standard high school diploma or GED.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Successfully complete one credit of high school algebra or its equivalent.
- Be physically able to perform the duties of the plumbing and pipefitting trades.
- Successfully pass the industry's validated aptitude examination.
- Submit a negative drug screening prior to employment.
Daytona State College Admission:
- Submit an application for admission to Daytona State College after selection by the apprenticeship committee.
- Register for apprenticeship classroom instruction and on-the-job training through the appropriate apprenticeship committee.
Completion:
- Earn a grade of "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
Financial Aid
This program is ineligible for federal and state financial aid.
