Program Overview
Mission:
The Medical Coder/Biller Certificate prepares students for entry-level employment in outpatient medical coding and billing environments.
Description:
This certificate program prepares students for employment as medical coders and billers in ambulatory care, physician offices, and hospital outpatient settings. Students learn to translate diagnostic and procedural information from medical records into alphanumeric codes.

Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Demonstrate communication skills in health care office environments.
- Accurately code and bill outpatient medical services.
- Analyze information in electronic medical records.

Program Requirements
Admission:
This is a Limited Access Program.
- This is a limited access program.
- Possess a standard high school diploma or GED.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Demonstrate college readiness in reading, writing, and mathematics through Daytona State College's placement process or approved exemption.
- Applicants not exempt from placement testing must achieve PERT scores at or above the 10th-grade level in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Enrollment:
Continuing enrollment approval is required prior to enrollment in program-specific courses.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Earn a grade of "C" or better in the following courses:
Completion:
- Earn a grade "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
- Complete all program-specific courses within one year of beginning the program.
- Successfully complete the required program evaluation by the Assistant Chair.
- Follow the policies and procedures outlined in the Medical Coder/Biller Student Handbook and the Daytona State College Student Handbook.

This program is eligible for federal financial aid and the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
