Program Mission, Description, and Outcomes
Mission:
To provide a multi-skilled, comprehensive education for students in the Radiologic Sciences. The Program will promote standards to meet stated outcomes for service-oriented professionals that are entry-level into the profession, and promote multi-competency and life-long learning.
Description:
Registered Technologists in Radiography RT(R) provide healthcare services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis and treatment. Radiographers perform radiologic procedures to produce images for interpretation by a physician (radiologist).
Professional judgment and critical thinking skills are exercised in the performance of services while maintaining a demeanor complementary to professional ethics. Radiographers provide appropriate multi-skilled patient care and are required to remain abreast of new technologies by participating in continuing education programs.
Program graduates are eligible for national certification/registration in radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and appropriate state licensure. The academic structure of the program cannot accommodate part-time or transfer students.

Additional Admission Requirements
This is a limited access program.

Have a standard high school diploma or GED.

Be at least 18 years of age.

Complete the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) with a minimum 10th grade level for reading, language and mathematics. See an Academic Advisor to determine developmental course requirements.
- Exemptions include:
- Florida public high school students who graduated after the year 2003 and earned a Standard High School diploma
- Active duty military applicants
- Those who have successfully completed college level English and/or Math
- Complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS V) with a minimum composite score of 65%.
- Students will be required to take the TEAS exam at a DSC Assessment Center.

Be of good physical and mental health.

Provide satisfactory results of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check and drug screen
- There is no exception given to students with a medical marijuana card.

Attend an informational session during the Spring semester scheduled through the program office.
Continuing Enrollment Requirements
Continuing enrollment approval will be required to enroll in the program specific courses based on a selections process after completing the required general education courses. Student selection for continuing enrollment is based on specific admission criteria and a points system.
- Earn a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better.
- Ensure a higher ranking with the following:
- Earn cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
- Successfully complete all prerequisites and corequisites by the application deadline
- Complete the following course with a grade of 'C' or better:
- ENC1101 Introduction to Composition
- MAC 1105 College Algebra
- BSC1085C Human Anatomy and Physiology I and Lab

Additional Completion Requirements
- Earn a grade "C" or better in all program specific and prerequisite courses.
- Adhere to the policy and procedures of the Radiography program as outlined in the Radiography student handbook, as well as those outlines in the Daytona State College Student Handbook.
