Program Overview
Mission:
The Advanced Technical Certificate in Construction and Design prepares students for employment in the construction industry by developing advanced knowledge and skills in construction design, engineering principles, project planning, and construction management.
Description:
The Advanced Technical Certificate in Construction and Design consists of 18 credit hours designed to develop proficiency in construction techniques, building materials, cost estimating, construction technologies, and construction design principles. The program prepares graduates to apply engineering concepts to residential and commercial construction projects.
Advanced Technical Certificate: This program expands technical knowledge and occupational skills through advanced coursework that prepares graduates for specialized employment and career advancement.
Outcomes:
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Apply engineering principles to residential and commercial construction projects.
- Design and analyze basic structural systems.
- Apply construction technology principles in building design and construction.
- Evaluate construction systems using engineering principles.
- Develop construction plans and project procedures.
Admission and Certificate Requirements
Admission:
- Submit an Advanced Technical Certificate in Construction and Design application.
- Meet one of the following educational requirements:
- Hold a conferred Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.), or Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Have completed at least 60 transferable college-level credits from a regionally accredited institution, including a minimum of 15 credits of General Education coursework.
- Complete all General Education and core coursework with a grade of "C" or better.
- Successfully complete ENC1101, MAC2311C, and PHY2048C, or equivalent or higher coursework.
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. Students with a cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 2.49 may be considered for conditional admission with approval of the Department Chair.
- Complete all prerequisite courses required for the certificate.
- Submit official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions. International transcripts must be evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
Completion:
- Earn a grade of "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
