Program Overview
Mission:
The Advanced Welding Vocational Certificate prepares students with the advanced knowledge, technical skills, and industry-recognized competencies necessary for successful careers in the welding profession. The program utilizes current technologies and instructional methods while supporting workforce development through equitable access to advanced manufacturing education.
Description:
The Advanced Welding Vocational Certificate prepares experienced welders for advancement within the welding industry through specialized training in advanced welding processes, pipe fabrication, and emerging welding technologies. Instruction emphasizes intermediate and advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and pipe fitting fabrication techniques used in industrial settings.
Limited Access Program: Admission requires previous welding experience or credentials and completion of program-specific admission requirements. Students should meet with an academic advisor for placement evaluation prior to enrollment.
Outcomes:
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Apply intermediate Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) pipe welding techniques.
- Apply fabrication techniques using pipe fitting methods.
- Apply advanced Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) pipe welding techniques.
- Apply advanced GTAW and SMAW heavy-wall pipe welding techniques.
- Apply emerging welding technologies in industrial applications.
Admission and Program Requirements
Admission:
- Submit an application for the Advanced Welding Vocational Certificate.
- Meet one of the following entrance requirements:
- Hold a standard high school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrate qualifying employment experience in the welding industry.
- Hold an AWS D1.1 Structural Steel 3G Certification.
- Complete a placement evaluation with a program advisor.
- Meet CASAS Reading and Mathematics assessment requirements or qualify for an approved exemption.
- Hold one of the following:
- Welding Technology Applied Vocational Certificate.
- 3G Structural Certification.
Completion:
- Enroll in PMT0077C Advanced Welder 1A as the first program course.
- Meet CASAS Reading and Mathematics assessment requirements or qualify for an approved exemption.
- Complete all program requirements and earn a passing grade in each required course.
Financial Aid
This program is eligible for federal financial aid and the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, subject to applicable eligibility requirements.
