Program Overview
Mission:
The Phlebotomy program trains effective phlebotomists in a variety of procedures and prepares graduates for entry-level employment.
Description:
Students learn to collect blood specimens for diagnostic laboratory testing while developing knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, infection control, safety, specimen handling, and patient communication.
Outcomes:
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Collect blood specimens by safely performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection.
- Identify anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system as it pertains to blood collection.
- Identify phlebotomy equipment and perform proper specimen handling.
- Practice infection control.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills.
- Demonstrate appropriate recordkeeping and data collection.
Program Requirements
Admission:
This is a Limited Access Program.
- Standard high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Physical examination by licensed physician.
- Required immunizations and negative PPD test or chest x-ray if indicated.
- FDLE/FBI background check and drug screening.
Completion:
- Earn a grade of "C" or better in all program-specific courses.
Financial Aid
The length of this program makes it ineligible for federal and state financial aid.
