Program Overview

Mission:

The Fire Fighter program provides quality job training for students preparing for fire-rescue careers.

Description:

The program prepares students with knowledge and skills to perform fire-rescue duties in accordance with NFPA Standard 1001, Florida Administrative Code 69A-37, and Florida Statute 633. Students seeking Firefighter II certification must complete the contiguous 492-hour sequence.

Limited Access Program: Admission is competitive and requires completion of program-specific entrance requirements. Students should consult with an academic advisor before applying.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  1. Exhibit effective communication within the firefighting field.
  2. Demonstrate professional behaviors consistent with entry-level firefighters.
  3. Demonstrate safe practices within the firefighting profession.

Admission and Program Requirements

Admission:

  • Submit Fire Fighter program application.
  • Standard high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Minimum CASAS scores or exemption.
  • Advisor meeting for placement and registration.
  • Physical examination and state-mandated criminal background check.
  • Must not be currently on probation and must meet State Firefighter certification eligibility.
  • Attend mandatory orientation and obtain required uniforms, bunker gear, and supplies.

Completion:

  • Earn grade "C" or better in all program-specific courses.
  • Meet CASAS Reading and Math requirements or exemption.
  • Adhere to program and college student handbook policies.

Financial Aid

The length of this program makes it ineligible for federal and state financial aid.
