Program Overview
Mission:
The Allen School of Nursing RN to BSN Program provides an innovative educational experience that promotes excellence in nursing. The program prepares registered nurses to demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice, and clinical competency while meeting the dynamic healthcare needs of individuals, families, and communities across the lifespan and continuum of care.
Description:
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) is designed for licensed registered nurses seeking career advancement through baccalaureate education. The fully online program provides a seamless transition from an associate degree or diploma in nursing to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree while preparing graduates for expanded professional practice, leadership, and evidence-based decision making.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing requires 36 credits of General Education coursework, including coursework completed during the Associate of Science in Nursing program and additional General Education requirements that support upper-division nursing coursework.
RN to BSN Completion Pathway: Licensed registered nurses with an associate degree or diploma in nursing complete upper-division coursework to earn the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree through a flexible online format.

College Accreditation: Daytona State College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Outcomes:
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will be able to:
- Modify nursing practice to reflect competencies expected of baccalaureate-prepared nurses.
- Develop person-centered plans of care that improve outcomes for individuals, families, groups, and communities.
- Apply systems thinking to improve population health.
- Appraise and apply evidence from nursing research to improve healthcare outcomes.
- Synthesize quality improvement and patient safety principles to enhance patient outcomes.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and interprofessional healthcare teams.
- Apply systems-based practice principles to coordinate and improve patient care.
- Integrate healthcare technologies and informatics to improve patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate professionalism consistent with the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics.
- Apply leadership and management principles to coordinate patient care across the lifespan.
Admission and Degree Requirements
Admission:
- This is a restricted access program.
- Submit a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) application.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess an unencumbered registered nursing license in the state of residence.
- Possess a conferred Associate of Science in Nursing (A.S.N.) degree or an equivalent diploma in nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
- Earn a minimum cumulative college grade point average of 2.5.
- Submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions. International transcripts must be evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
Completion:
- Meet with an academic advisor to develop an individualized curriculum plan.
- Prior to the first practicum, successfully complete an FBI background check, a fingerprint-based state and federal criminal history check, and a negative Florida Department of Law Enforcement drug screening.
- Complete the program within six semesters.
- Complete 42 credits of associate-level nursing coursework, 36 credits of General Education, 32 credits of upper-division nursing coursework, and 10 additional required credits for a minimum of 120 total credits.
- Complete at least 25% of the overall degree requirements, 25% of the program-specific courses, and 25% of the upper-division program-specific credits at Daytona State College.
- Demonstrate foreign language competency by completing two years of the same foreign language in high school or two semesters of the same college-level foreign language.
- Satisfy the College-Level Communication and Computational Skills and Civic Literacy Competency requirements.
- Earn a grade of "C" or better in all program-specific, elective, and prerequisite courses.
- Comply with the policies and procedures outlined in the Nursing Student Handbook and the Daytona State College Student Handbook.
- Meet all Daytona State College graduation requirements and deadlines.
