Program Overview

Mission:

The mission of the Criminal Justice Associate of Science degree program is to equip students to pursue advanced study and meaningful, rewarding careers in the various fields of criminal justice while emphasizing student success and excellence.

Description:

The Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice prepares students for careers in the criminal justice field. Career opportunities include law enforcement officer (municipal, state, or federal), probation or parole officer, crime scene technician, intelligence analyst, dispatcher, court clerk, private investigator, corporate or private security professional, park ranger, and criminology instructor.

Students become familiar with the roles and functions of law enforcement, the courts, the correctional system, and the juvenile justice system. Students are exposed to criminological theories, criminal justice policy, and constitutional law. The program also prepares students for promotional opportunities to supervisory positions or specialized units.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  1. Exhibit effective communication within the field of criminal justice.
  2. Exhibit professional behavior within the field of criminal justice.
  3. Exhibit culturally appropriate behavior within the field of criminal justice.

Completion Requirement:

  • Earn a grade "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.

Graduates may pursue employment in law enforcement, corrections, probation, and other criminal justice fields. Common roles include Police Officer, Deputy Sheriff, Correctional Officer, Probation Officer, Crime Scene Technician, and Public Safety Dispatcher. In the Brevard-Flagler-Volusia workforce region, approximately 4,186 criminal justice professionals are employed in these occupations, with an average annual salary of $57,290 and approximately 312 annual job openings.
