Program Overview
Mission:
The mission of the Allen School of Nursing is to provide an innovative learning environment that promotes excellence in professional nursing practice. The program prepares students to demonstrate professionalism, ethical behavior, and competency in meeting the dynamic healthcare needs of individuals across the lifespan and healthcare continuum.
Description:
The Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares students for careers in professional nursing through classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Employment opportunities are available in long-term care, home health, hospital, and outpatient settings. Clinical experiences are provided through local healthcare facilities and community agencies.
Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Students are admitted in January and August. Upon completion of the program and licensure requirements, graduates are eligible for admission to Daytona State College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

College Accreditation: Daytona State College is institutionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Outcomes:
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Provide patient-centered care that respects patient preferences, values, and needs.
- Collaborate effectively within nursing and interprofessional healthcare teams.
- Integrate evidence-based practice into patient care decision-making.
- Apply quality improvement principles within healthcare systems.
- Promote patient and provider safety through effective practices and systems awareness.
- Utilize informatics and healthcare technologies to support communication, decision-making, and patient care.
Program Requirements
Admission:
This is a Limited Access Program.
- Standard high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Physical examination and required immunizations, including:
- Influenza, tetanus-diphtheria, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B.
- Negative tuberculosis screening (PPD test or chest x-ray, if indicated).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Providers through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Satisfactory FDLE/FBI background check and drug screening.
- Eligibility for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) as required by the Florida Board of Nursing.
- Nursing courses for transfer or readmission must have been completed within one year and approved by the Nursing Readmission and Transfer Committee. Transfer students are accepted on a limited basis based on space availability.
- Minimum TEAS composite score of 65%.
- TEAS scores must be earned in a single attempt.
- Maximum of four TEAS attempts permitted per calendar year.
- TEAS scores are valid for three years.
- Only TEAS scores earned at Daytona State College are accepted.
Enrollment:
Continuing enrollment approval is required prior to enrollment in program-specific courses.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Earn a grade of “C” or better in the following courses:
Completion:
- Earn a grade of “C” or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
- Complete Nursing courses in the sequence published in the sample program of study.
- Follow the policies and procedures outlined in the Nursing Student Policy Handbook and the Daytona State College Student Handbook.

This program is eligible for federal financial aid and state Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
