Program Overview

Mission:

The Accounting Technology A.S. degree prepares students for careers in accounting or transfer into a bachelor’s degree program by providing foundational accounting knowledge, applied skills, and professional competencies.

Description:

The program provides a foundation in accounting theory and practice, including financial planning, taxation, and computerized accounting systems. Students apply accounting concepts through hands-on coursework and simulations.

Graduates are eligible to enroll in Daytona State College’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management or the Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Students pursuing the BS in Accounting should complete the following prerequisite courses: ACG2021, ACG2071, ISM2000 or CGS2100, ECO2013, ECO2023, STA2023, MAC2233.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate clear and effective communication.
  2. Solve business problems using critical thinking.
  3. Identify and discuss legal and ethical issues in tax preparation, financial planning, and the business environment.
  4. Use appropriate software and hardware to produce tax returns, financial plans, and financial reports.
  5. Demonstrate a basic working knowledge of estate planning, investment planning and cash management.
  6. Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to record, summarize, and report business transactions.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of corporate finance in the field of business.
  8. Identify sound measures of internal control and protection of business assets.
  9. Demonstrate an understanding of the global business environment.

Completion Requirement:

  • Earn a grade "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
