Program Overview

Mission:

The Accounting Technology Operations – Tax Preparation College Credit Certificate prepares students for entry-level employment in tax preparation by developing accounting knowledge, applied technical skills, and professional competencies.

Description:

This certificate provides a foundation in the theory and practice required for employment in tax preparation. Students develop skills in accounting procedures, financial planning, spreadsheet applications, and personal income tax preparation.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate clear and effective communication.
  2. Solve business problems using critical thinking.
  3. Identify legal and ethical issues in tax preparation and financial planning.
  4. Use software and hardware to produce tax returns and financial reports.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of estate planning, investment planning, and cash management.
  6. Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to business transactions.

Completion Requirement:

  • Earn a grade of "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
