Program Overview
Mission:
The Paramedic Certificate prepares students to deliver high-quality, compassionate patient care in the prehospital environment through advanced emergency medical training that emphasizes student success and professional excellence.
Description:
The Paramedic program prepares students in advanced emergency medical skills required for prehospital patient care. Instruction includes vascular access, pharmacology, medication administration, advanced airway management, and treatment of medical and traumatic emergencies across all age groups.
Students develop competencies in managing respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular events, childbirth, overdoses, allergic reactions, seizures, infectious disease exposure, soft-tissue trauma, burns, fractures, head and spine injuries, and environmental emergencies.
This program meets requirements established by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, allowing graduates to take the Florida state certification examination for paramedics.

Program Requirements
Admission:
This is a limited access program.
- Submit a Paramedic program application.
- Attend the mandatory program orientation.
- Complete an FDLE/FBI background check and drug screening.
- Complete a physical examination and required immunizations.
Completion:
- Earn a grade of "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
- Wear the required program uniform.
- Comply with all EMS program policies and the student handbook.
The length of this program makes it ineligible for federal and state financial aid.

Graduates may pursue employment as paramedics and emergency medical professionals, including roles such as Paramedic, Advanced Life Support (ALS) Provider, Critical Care Paramedic, Flight Paramedic, Emergency Department Technician, and EMS Supervisor. Per Florida Statute 401.2701: Paramedic programs must be available only to Florida-certified emergency medical technicians or an emergency medical technician applicant who will obtain Florida certification prior to completion of phase one of the paramedic program. Credits earned at another accredited institution may be eligible for transfer to Daytona State College, if the student possesses a current National Registry EMT license. Credits earned in this program may be counted in the Emergency Medical Services AS degree.
