Program Overview

Mission:

The Baking and Pastry Arts Certificate prepares students for employment in the baking and pastry segment of the hospitality industry through a curriculum that integrates theory and hands-on production. The program develops skilled professionals who contribute to the hospitality industry and their communities.

Description:

This program prepares students for employment in retail and wholesale bakery operations. Students learn techniques and methods for planning and producing baked goods, pastries, artisan breads, and desserts. Instruction emphasizes industry standards for quality, production, and sanitation.

Students completing this certificate enhance employability within culinary and hospitality environments.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate basic and advanced pastry and baking techniques.
  2. Apply sanitation procedures consistent with FDA guidelines.
  3. Demonstrate skills for employment in professional baking environments.
  4. Apply nutrition principles to meet dietary restrictions.
  5. Produce pastries, desserts, artisan breads, and chocolates using industry techniques.

Completion Requirement:

  • Earn a grade "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
