Program Overview
Mission:
The FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician Certificate prepares students for careers in advanced manufacturing through an employer-sponsored work-based learning model that integrates classroom instruction with paid industry experience. Embedded within the Engineering Technology A.S. degree program, the certificate develops the technical knowledge, professional competencies, and workplace skills needed to succeed as an Advanced Manufacturing Technician.
Description:
The FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician Certificate is completed as part of the Engineering Technology A.S. degree through the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) program. Students participate in an employer-sponsored Earn and Learn model, attending classes two days per week while gaining paid, hands-on experience with a participating manufacturing employer three days per week.
The curriculum prepares students to install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced manufacturing and automation systems. Instruction emphasizes electrical and mechanical systems, robotics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial maintenance, precision measurement, safety, and professional competencies expected in modern manufacturing environments.
Admission to the certificate requires acceptance into the Engineering Technology A.S. degree program and selection by a participating FAME employer.
Outcomes:
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of industrial automation systems, including their operation and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot industrial automation systems.
- Apply the principles of robotics to automated manufacturing systems.
- Create and operate human-machine interfaces (HMIs) used to control automated systems.
Financial Aid
Students enrolled in the Engineering Technology A.S. degree program may be eligible for federal and state financial aid, subject to applicable eligibility requirements. The FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician Certificate is completed as part of the Engineering Technology A.S. degree.
