Program Overview

Mission:

The Hospitality Beverage Science Certificate prepares students for employment in the beverage segment of the hospitality and culinary industries through a curriculum that integrates theory and hands-on learning in a professional training environment.

Description:

The Hospitality Beverage Science program prepares students for careers in craft brewing, beverage service, and hospitality operations. Students develop knowledge and skills related to brewing science, wine fundamentals, beverage service, sanitation, and beverage management.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  1. Handle and process brewing ingredients for beer production.
  2. Manage yeast propagation and cultivation in a craft brewery setting.
  3. Discuss wine production, identification, and service techniques.
  4. Pair wines and beer with appropriate food choices.
  5. Apply cleaning, sanitizing, and safety procedures in beverage operations.
  6. Demonstrate beverage service skills while complying with applicable laws.
  7. Identify beverage management components in accordance with regulations.
  8. Design beverage menus.
  9. Develop marketing plans for beverage products.

Completion Requirement:

  • Earn a grade "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
